Katherine McGuan

Professional Learning  Specialist

Katherine Schneeberger McGugan is the Metro Nashville Public Schools Professional Learning  Specialist on the CSLOC LIFT Grant. She has over 10 years of experience in the education space particularly at the intersection of mathematics teaching and teacher learning.

 

Katherine began her career as a middle school mathematics teacher in a middle school outside of Boston. She became the mathematics coach at the same school working with math teachers and special educators spanning grades 5-8. As a coach, Katherine developed a passion for working with and supporting teachers as they strive for ambitious and equitable instruction.

 

Most recently, Katherine has pursued her PhD at Vanderbilt University, studying how secondary mathematics teachers learn throughout their careers. Throughout her studies, she has become passionate about grounding professional development in teachers’ local contexts and developing sustainable systems for professional growth.

 

Prior to Vanderbilt, she received a Master of Arts in Teaching from Boston University and a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from the University of Pittsburgh.
